March 9. Thursday Came down a little late and Ned looked out the window and bowed and smiled to me. Much happier than last night. I'm thankful if I kept her from that weary jour- ney - and no Lilla there to meet her. Two weeks hence will be plenty early! At noon (pouring) I came up the Avenue & went to Fairchild's to give Hattie a message from Mama Stood a long time waiting on the cute old porch & finally Belle

appeared - just out of bed! I went in for half a minute chat - How it did rain, everybody is afraid of a flood. I rather expected (almost against my feeling) that Ned would come over to-night but she didn't. I read a little. Will O. & I have a visit every noon. March 10. Friday No rain, but still melting. The ice went out of the river about 2 p.m & the water is very high - not so busy to-day - J.W. came home yesterday. The kitchen is being painted so I stayed down this noon. Went up for Ned but she had to go & sign some legal papers with her
