She said she met Walter Smith &
Catherine Cook
at the lake. We drove down nearly to the ferry & then turned
around. Looked around for Ned, but
didn't see her. Coming up we ate a very nice lunch Freddie brought. Met Mr. & Mrs. Henry
Gould & others. It was most dark when we reached
Fredricka. She brought me an
awfully pretty little green & white basket, I had a little chat
with Edith over the carriage ride. Then went to the
stables with F. & took the car home.
Ned was there. She had brought me
Anthony Hope's "Comedies of Courtship" - a
new collar & a bunch of sweet peas. She rode away but came up
again 20 minutes later, after I'd changed my clothes & had two cups
of tea & untied a parcel containing a lovely cut glass vase from
Kate
, & read a letter from
Gertrude. It must have been
after nine when we started - on our wheels - for
John's & Mae's.
We went via Adams St.
(walked a block there) and Prospect. Jno & Mae were waiting for us on the piazza. We had a little
talk & Jno smoked a cigarette
& then got out the tandem (Crescent)
and took me for a
ride - my first. It was very nice, tho' I prefer single wheels. We
went to the drug store & imbibed and bought some chocolate caramels.
Then John took Ned
on the same trip - & invited Mae later. We went in the house & lazed a little
(after sitting on the
1896.
