begun Basket Ball when they sent up and asked us to stop - as we
were "disturbing a banquet!" We walked home. A lovely night. Ned felt sick and didn't play B. Ball - back
ache &c.
Feb. 19. Friday
I hustled around getting things ready for the party. Edith came first then Ned & the
Mac Arthur's. Then the Rogers, later the
Davis's - and Matie (very late) I had paper caps - concealed behind 12
cute little paper dolls - labeled " Perfect Little Ladies
-Take one" Then I had heart-shaped score cards &c. &c. We
were so late we only played 3 games (with two dummies) and Mabel (who wore a "ta-ra-ra" & was
very funny) got the pin - on 90 points. (I made 75!) About quarter
of ten we had supper - coffee, two kinds of cake - olives & pickles
& 3 kinds of sandwiches - turkey - lettuce & cream cheese with
nuts - heart shaped - which Cad
made for me. Then we put the basket full of valentines
on the table & sorted them out - so many -
and then went into the sitting room & sat on the floor to open
them and laughed. They were so funny. Lura sent 3 dozen or so pink carnations - a
big bunch and Papa wrote 6 of the girls

Mary & me) poems and so on
& so on. In the midst of it Mrs. Arnold and
Bob Hawley came &
