with Miss Iles, Miss
Field & Miss Dennis
on the piazza when Wiltsie came
and informed me he had arranged to take me deep-sea fishing
tomorrow, if the weather was good (there seems to be a doubt!)
Mrs. R. hove in sight soon
after eight and we four (Alice,
Wiltsie, she & I) went over to
"Jacob's Hall" to an ice cream festival for the
Village Improvement Society's benefit.
Mr.
& Mrs. Perrin, Mr. & Mrs.
Miller and
Mr. Lowell joined us at ice cream and conversation,
and we had a word with
Mrs. Day. Mr. Perrin brought me a very
nice letter from Mary. Wiltsie gave
me a nasturtium bouquet & coming home bought me gum (!) Then we
had more candy & "wit" on the piazza.
Miss Iles (whose name is "Charlotte") coming out to tell us funny
stories.
July 25-Saturday.
A cold, dismal rain greeted us this morning - and a soaking one -
enough to discourage all thought of our fishing trip. We had a late
breakfast and sat at table sometime with Wiltsie, as usual. We wandered about the house. I went
into "Alice's" room awhile - and
then we settled down for awhile in the sitting room - the women &
Jeanette
.
The children were in the other sitting room & the men in the
"wheelroom" playing poker. Finally Mrs. Perrin told
with Miss Iles, Miss
Field & Miss Dennis
