(tho' we were not tired) at the 1/2 way seat. The night was very
still out there - and very starry - and a dog barked and it echoed
& we talked about nothing & sat still & listened to far away
sounds. Ned was bad after that, and
rode off ahead leaving
Frank & I to follow. We had to get
off once to avoid a collision with wheels in front. (There was a bad
one, back of us, coming down - & I forgot to say we started out
with the Spencer cycle club!) We got thro' the mist at the
falls & uptown by 10:30 and then went in the Powers Hotel Drug
Store
for claret phosphate & another chat about a girl in there who
wanted to ride to the
lake with Frank - & didn't. We saw Ned home first.
June 13. Sat.
A beautiful day - another - a little more windy than yesterday.
After disposing of my morning's work I went home to dinner & got
ready & Ned came & I went to the
dressmaker's & for Mama's waist
& then we started off on our touring - Mama, Ned & I (Papa went to
Pulaski this a.m.) On the car was a funny pretty
foolish girl & her Mama & her Mama's intended "second" evidently.
They went nearly all the way with us & it was great fun. We met
Rose Mills at the corner. (Claude has just made her a book plate) At the
Bay R.R. station we had to wait neatly an hour & I read a story
aloud, from McClure's.
