June 8. Monday
Gilmore bought his bicyle - a Columbia - today. My cyclometer is 440. I
wonder when he'll catch up to me. This noon I rode up to
Morse's on
Prince St., for Mama. It sprinkled when I got ready to start back - so I
rode in a street car - with Theo.
Rained hard this p.m. & evening. I sewed while Papa read aloud "The Harshaw Bride" in
Century
June 9. Tuesday
Walked down this a.m. It threatened rain & did pour at noon -
& this afternoon. Our offices are pleasant on a rainy day. I sit &
watch the people scurrying up the Avenue - and when the storm came,
too. J.G. & I watched the big
gray cloud - all shades of gray, come tearing on before a blank gray rain-
storm. It was a sublime sight. I was foolish enough to walk home at
noon - be- cause I had errands & missed cars. Got wet of course.
Saw Ned at noon. I sewed again this
evening, while Papa read a clever little
sketch of Bunner's - in Scribner's - about
Suburban life.
June 10. Wed.
A beautiful clear, cool, breezy day. The bicycle races, which were
to occur yesterday, came today. J.G. was busy receiving bankers. (I saw one this morning.
Jim Edwards of Dansville) so let
me go to the races. - Stopped to see
Ned at noon "jollied" Mr.
Bruff. Rode up with Marie
