Edinburgh) and took people out of their houses that way. No cars running, of course. I walked "around blocks" all day. Took a picture of Martha & Willie on the roof (skylight) looking at "Life". Timed a couple at Glasgow St. (the round house) in the dark, at noon. To- night Willie & Crump walked up with me. The water was the highest yet- up to the "U" in "Upton" on the sign opposite Adams St. Down town people are moving out of their cellars (Woodbury, Lane & Paine Weaver, &c.) & all the fire engines in the city & a number of hand pumps are at at work on the various basements.
