1897.
I finished Martha's letters for her this p.m. so she could go to the "fete". Held Mrs JW's little dog - he's real cute - "Flip" - and then went with Claude to the Lyceum & saw the last of the children's performance. Buell Mills makes a very cute "Pied Piper" and the children were very cunning - especially the "littlest girl". Sam Hamilton sat in front of us & I saw pretty Miss Curr, coming out and Louis Saunders. Tried to get my hair washed, but the woman was too busy. Then came home, did my accounts, & went to bed early. Jan. 31. Sunday A lovely day. Was going to sleep this morning, but couldn't. Have had headache every minute since a week ago Monday! Made blue prints, washed dishes, and listened to "Captain Courageous" read by Claude & read myself, in the parlor, later. After dinner (a delicious one) stopped for Mary & went over to Lura's with her, Emma walked part way with us. Found Lura upstairs - bright & cheerful. The room full of flowers sunshine. Had a nice call, some of the "sunshine" cake Mary brought her and some lemonade. Walked home, Ned Mary asked if Ned was engaged, and I told her about it. We were a long time coming home. I was only just seated when Helen & Frank Davis called. We visited awhile & then Helen came upstairs with me & washed my hair - the dear girl - & massaged my head & talked about Murray & Mr. Degraff & Will Orchard and told me the nice things her brother said
