1897.
Jan. 2. Sat. J.W. has gone - to be married Wednesday - & J.G. is very fussy & it has been a busy day. Tonight I staid home - sewed, figured - bath & bed at 10, sleep at 1! Jan. 3. Sunday A lovely balmy day. Thermometer about 60 this noon! Got my bicycle out to clean, but decided to let M.& F. do it. Rode down to Mary's, to show, & see pictures and then went to Ned's & had a visit. Rose came in later. Found Theo & the Behn's here when I returned, looking at my pictures. After dinner, which was rather late, I went to Mary's & we walked to Lura's. Found her blue & Mrs. B. with an ulcerated tooth! Didn't stay long. Went up to Matie's & found her in a charming house-sacque & she showed us her beautiful silver presents (from "Bob" & others.) and then took us up stairs to look at silks, handkerchiefs & lingerie. She gave me some stunning pink ribbon (for a belt & bow which she made -) and her "man" picture, and gave Mary some pretty red Turkish slippers. She invited me to be a bridesmaid (Mary's going to) but I declined - & also invited us up to a beefsteak supper next Thursday night! We came home before six. I read, wrote & lunched. Jan. 4. Monday It poured tonight - but I went to gym. Edith was there, but not Ned & Rose. Helen was very much interested in my account & Matie Arnold's wedding arrangements. Edithwalked across the bridge with me - In the rain - I bought a new coat today - at Carroll's - quite pretty -
