1896.
When we got home I fed them hemlock water and peaches - in the kitchen & back yard! and then came in and entertained a caller - Miss Hyatt - a niece of Miss Marshall's. After supper I dressed and walked down to MacA's. Saw Ida's photographs, etc. and then we "all" went down to the Lyceum. Emma & Ida to sit in "L" in the balcony & Mr. Mac & Nellie in "B". Alice & I in "F" down stairs & Mary in front of us with Matie Arnold, "Bob" Hawley, Lura, Mrs. Arnold &c. Mary & Lura were at Matie's at supper tonight. "Chat" and Helen Davis sat back with us too, Ned & Frank were down in "B". Arno, Meta & Amelie Behn & Theo in a box. Mr. Kirkpatrick in sight - &c! "Clark" was a thief this time and really very good. And very "swagger". He and Harvey
made things funny the first act. And Robt Macaire's long curly wig was most becoming. The girls had a disappointment after the "downy jailbird" song, but survived it. In the second act Clark was in red tights and a red satin coat and looked fine. In the minuet he actually looked at Mary - gave that funny little lift to his eyebrows and smiled. She was smiling. Lura was furious and knew it was meant for her and "slipped" (she said) "Oh these girls - these giddy young girls."
