then sat & read for quite a while, getting down to Mary's at just 9.Mary& Edith hailed me with joy and Mary took me up stairs. The parlor, back parlor & dining room were crashed & the pianist & violinist were in the library, where there were sofa, chairs also. A punch bowl of lemonade in the dining room corner & little sofa in the parlor corner. When I came down Nellie, Edith & Mary were in the dining room, & Mr. Fisk, Mr. Mott & Mr. Severance. Jack Ballagh was in the next room, but he came in & talked to me & he & Nellie & I had a jolly time in the corner, till the first waltz - which I didn't dance (nor Edith) but talked to Mr. McLaughlin I didn't try two-steps nor waltzes - tho' I did dance the "Casey wd. waltz" &c. with Mr. Mott & later Jack Ballagh insisted on teaching me the Trilby two step - & we danced every strain. It was great fun. I danced everything I knew how & a few things that I didn't. Besides the 3 McArthur's & Edith & I there were present Mrs. Miller

(nee McArthur.) Miss Wynne (didn't meet her) Miss Bristow (Mr. Lee brought) Miss St. John (a little thing in pink & black. I talked to her thro' one dance, on the parlor sofa) Miss Ferguson (in gray!) Miss Bents (came with Mr. Drake - & is like him) and Miss French, our former member. The men were Mr. Fisk (danced the first Lancers with Warren) Harry Severance (supper with him & the usual "bon mots") Jack Ballagh (a couple of square dances - waltz quadrille & prairie queen. The Trilby two step - another two- step sat out with him & Ed Teall on the parlor sofa! & a fair conversation) Ed Teall - (two dances & numerous "dialogues") Mr. Mott (a pretty boy with dimples-
