Had to walk and "trolley" as my wheel wasn't unpacked - (crated) till night - when I cleaned her all up while I talked to Theo. Read &c. tonight - Mary, Alice, Lura & the Davises have gone to "The Wilburs" - who have just arrived. Walked down the hill with Mary at 5 and we met some of them. Just before bedtime Mama & I walked down to Curtis's for ice cream soda. Aug. 4. Tuesday Hot, oppressive day. Rode Diana - worked some & blue printed. J.W. left for N.Y. at noon. J.G. in the Adirondacks. Went to the station to be weighed and hadn't gained a pound. Was used up tonight and took a bath right after supper. Edith arriving before I was dressed. Put on cool things as possible and sat on the piazza till about dark, then walked down to Mary's where we found, besides the MacArthurs, Ed Teall Harry Severance and Jack Ballagh and "Geo. Frisk" soon arrived. Had a jolly call. Jack B. and I "swapped lies" about our vacations &c. &c. and Mr. Fisk & Mr. Severance played jokes on each other, while Mr. Teall smoked & the girls talked "Stony Lake". Mary walked to the corner with us when we came away and I wrote a long epistle to Ned before bed. So hot - oh! My heart is still in Maine.
