, Margurite,
Mr. Miller, Mr. Perrin & I had a
4-mile ride on the beach - which was beautiful tonight. The tide
being low at 7 and the beach very hard & fine and the breakers
large and long. When I got back, Alice, Wiltsie & I
went over on the cliffs to see the moon rise and watched it mount
the sky - most beautiful! We also ate chocolates & talked &
told stories. When we got back I read awhile & Alice & Wiltsie went to the express office. Then W. showed me the plans of St.
Margarets' Memorial Hospital in Pittsburg
(Ernest Flagg), which he is figuring, and we sat
talking them over till everyone else in the house had disappeard.
July 26 Sunday
A beautiful day, which a lovely breeze just kept from being warm. We
strolled & loafed about. Wiltsie and I went down to the fish- houses. We helped
catch a wild and run- away cow on the way down, I took a snap at
Gurdon & his Papa on the little
dock. Was introduced to Capt. Hamilton and saw
his nets and hooks & glass buoys half-full of water, etc. & we
made an engagement for two o'clock. We talked over the "widow" and I
told W. I had begun analyzing her
bait. He said he realized that "any old thing would do" for her &c.
