July 23rd Thursday. Gurdon's sixth birthday. We were all up early - The children to get ferns and flowers to trim his chair and place at table and make a wreath for him. Ruth and Marguerite waited at the foot of the stair and made a triumphal chair, bearing him in state to the dining room door, where Hester

crowned him as he came through and every one trooped after to witness his joy as he beheld his treasures - boats, candies, spades, rakes & hoes, a racquet, a plate &c. &c. Alice gave him the second Jungle Book and Wiltsie a lovely buckboard with which the children played hilariously all the time they could. I took a little group of them upon & around it and including Jeanette (or "Net") Miller. Mrs & Miss Day and the children came and finally about 9:30 the 4 seated buckboard - and it was loaded with Wiltsie (driving & the driver, Alice, Gurdon, Ruth
, Bob
, Hester, Margurite Ralph
, Mrs. Day, Miss Day, Marjorie
and Stockwell Day and Verne Perkins. A shower came up as they were starting but blew over and the clouds were beautiful and the day perfect. Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Perrin, Miss Bradley & I intended to ride our wheel with Mr. Nutter & Mr. Perrin, but there was a head wind
