The tide was coming in. Got back to find Wiltsie here (rather to our constern- ation, as we all looked like frights. We "dressed up" for supper- and after a chat on the piazza with Miss Iles, Miss Dennis & Miss Field, Miss Bradley & I started for the Lookout. Met Alice, Wiltsie & Gurdon, & Wiltsie joined us & we got Mrs. Reading & went down above the cliff to listen to the breakers & watch the full moon on the sea. It was beautiful. Fireworks on the Long Beach. Then the lights of Wells & Kenne- bunk and the rest hidden in mist. A fishing boat going out of the river - the breakers dashing at our feet and white all along Lobster Point and beyond. The full moon emerging now and then from little banklets of fog - and pretty clouds & touching everything with glory & silver and up behind me Wiltsie smoking a red-ended cigar Mrs R. telling ghost stories & Mrs. B's laugh rippling out "anon." About nine a big bank of dark dark fog blew up & obscured everything and we all came home - I to listen to 10 minutes of chatter in the parlor ("Charlie" Miller was coming tonight or in the morning) and then came up & sewed & read till late.
