wheels - Mr. P. did his too and "jollied" the others. I think he is quite cute "Uncle George" the Miller children call him. Jeanette was out there too, & Gurdon. Alice, Mrs. R Miss B. and I went "shopping" down to the P.O. and village and about eleven we all went up to the beach and in bathing. It seemed cold enough at first, but fine afterwards. We crossed the river and then "rode" the big breakers Mrs. Perrin, Mrs. Day, Miss Bradley, Ruth , Alice & I. It was magnificent. I had several tastes of salt water and we staid in nearly an hour. The bath houses are very nice and convenient but 3 of us took turns using one, some were almost late to dinner. I found a sweet letter from "Chat" awaiting me - quite unexpected, too. She intended to see me off & couldn't. After dinner we got on our wheels, Miss Bradley and I and stopped for Mrs. Day who, with Alice & Mrs. Reading, hired a wheel and tried to learn to ride on the beach. Miss Bradley and I went a mile and a half or so up the beach - which was like a fine floor. The breakers dashing in our one side and the dunes against a gray sky on the other - most delightful in every way until we turned and tried to go back again against the wind! And that was quite a journey! We met
