Elwood's to dinner. I got dressed & had my dinner & helped Mother and then walked over to Matie's to see the girls who came to look at wedding clothes (Ned, Mary, Nellie & Edith) The things were lovely - then the MacA's & E. & I went to Ned's & she tried on hers & they were lovely. I never saw anyone look more stunning than she in her big black velvet hat - white & green waist & frenchy black silk skirt. She was simply dazzling. Then Mary rode her wheel home - Edith & Nellie took the car & I walked out to Davis's where I had a nice chat with Mr. D. & later with the girls & Frank - who made me stay to supper. Frank saw me to the car. They are nice people. Oct. 4. Monday. Another lovely day & lovely moonlight night. The 12 at Davis's tonight - and I actually took first prize! Wore my new suit & silk waist. Mabel began with me & almost got the prize (her score 193 & mine 195!). There were poems at each place at table - prettily bound up with white ribbon. Then there were roses (from "us") to the brides and we had the presents presented. Mary made a speech & gave Matie a pin (& she cried!) & Charlotte began a speech & gave Ned a belt buckle (& she didn't cry) Then Mabel sang her star-song - which was encored & re-encored
