appeared at table. One they called "Cecil" opposite us
was quite funny - & such
lovely coats of brown & red. We went out & watched the sun
sink into the Lake & had a
little chat with Mr. Shaw (They'd all camped on the
hurricane deck) & then watched the Charlotte lights grow big & the "North
King" going in from Port Hope. She got
in first, too. After checking Mame's
wheel we found Clem Goodyear, all
bubbling over with spirits & she entertained us to the city.
There Claude met us & carried home
the satchel and Mame & I went
up to Hovey's to buy the KodakClara
had wheedled
her father to get for her. Of course we didn't get up home till after ten.
Aug 22 Sun.
A gorgeous morning but we slept late and hadn't had breakfast when
Ned and
Edith came for us to go to
Ballentine's Bridge. We went right after
breakfast & met the girls & Mary, Nellie &
Alice Mac
at the park. The path was fine and we had a fine ride out. Mame seemed to enjoy it immensely. We
went thro' the crop road to the honey-house - where we tried to
"jolly" a blackberry pie away from some boys - but couldn't. We had
milk, honey, bread & butter and repartee. Then I got stung by a
bee
