Then we went down cellar spent the rest of the morning - shelling
peas - fixing pine- apple - wiping dishes &c. Went down to
Mary's (3 of us) with a letter from
Mrs. Graham & Mary announced she wasn't going toStony Lake after all! I was going to
Forest Lawn to meet Helen
Davis
this pm - but didn't - read & sat by the window during a
delicious thunderstorm - eating home made ice cream! It felt cooler
afterward and about 6 o'clock I rode out to the park & sat under my
favorite tree by the river for two hours or more. The sunset was
very beautiful. People kept coming into the park in swarms - hundreds of
them - & sauntering past - toward the refectory and
merry-go-round. When the sun was set I started back but met Con & he wanted me to stay - He'd been
down to the house for me &c. I went back & we heard the music a
little while & looked at people and then went down by the river
and sat under a big elm - where we could get the breeze both ways &
see the reflections in the water & away from the crowd and there
we sat & watched the fireworks against the darkening sky. They were
very pretty indeed and we enjoyed it and staid quite late - until a
good many had gone but even there crowded cars passed us going home
