hailed the camp & then the store - where half the passengers
were transferred to the
Golden City & there was lantern smoke & introductions
& goodbyes - & trunks being taken on & off and boats & the
whole Rose family & Mr. Gray
& Mr. Frier called on us & finally we swung
away & the moon was up & the other places were merely
memories of exclamations & shoving boats & shouts &
lantern flickers & we got to
Viamede dock before 11 and
Mrs Graham met us & took us to our rooms
(mine is 7 - E's 3 & N's 8) & gave us milk to drink &
then we unpacked the necessaries and turned in - I to sleep finely.
Sun. July 18.
The sun rose in the West this morning - a way it has here. We got up
about 8 and had breakfast at half-past. Met
Dr. & Mrs. Pond of Pittsburgh
& little Irene
at another and
Mr. Dymond & 2 young ladies at
another. It was a warm day & we 3 spent most of it down under
the trees with hammock, shawl, cushions & box of candy &
Con's - (He put a dear little
note in it - about how I'd be missed!)
