Helen Davis & Mary came & we went up to South Park in the wind and sat on the grass and found 4-leaf clovers & talked and "had a good time". Helen visited me to dinner so I went - stopping at the house only to leave word. We rode up Pearl St., thereby saving about 3/4 of a mile. Charlotte was just getting up, and after washing & resting a little we had dinner and a good one - roast beef - potatoe, coffee, bread & butter, lettuce, tomato & mayonaise. Then Angel's food & straw- berries & cream. We had a jolly time at dinner & after- ward. Discussed the Wilburs &c. and books & things. In the midst of an interesting talk Harry Backus came (& staid all the afternoon) and then Miss Farley & later Mary & Lura (on wheels). We got to talking about a vacation in a canal boat - 2 weeks in July - to N.Y. &c. and got quite enthusiastic. We 3 girls & Mr. B. left about six & rode down the Avenue together. I found Edith here and went upstairs to wash & dress while she was here. Helen
& Will came before dark - on their wheels - and we had a chat out in the yard - if an hour. Then I came in to write - & now lunch & reading, bath & bed. Con came home with Claude, after I'd retired. May 31. Monday Pleasant, but windy. Flags flying. Got up rather early for a holiday and before few Mary & Edith came to say they couldn't go riding because of the wind, but wanted me to go to the Parade. I had to wait till 10, as I expected the people, and Will came for me & I rode over the river with him and Helen
