Feb. 25th Thurs.
Snowy. I had a sweet letter from Lura
this morning - Telling me how much good! I had done her writing her
notes while she was sick, and "other things". It was very dear, and made
me feel good. Frank
telephoned that they were expecting me tonight, so I stopped for
Helen at the gymnasium and went up
to supper with her. Mrs. Davis was
home from Detroit
and had brought the parrot - "Lori" with her.
Helen is already teaching it to say
"Hurry up,
Charlotte!" Frank keeps telling it "Good morning Corporal", so it will
say so to him - and I tried to teach it to say "Sweet Bird" to Helen. It does say a good many things
and is very funny & cute. After supper I did my hair and Chat & Helen & Frank
dressed for the "Ball" (presentation of badges) at the
Arsnel. Charlotte has a
lovely new cloth suit. We went early, so Frank would have time to get his uniform on. His friend
Harry Backus met and went with us
and Lieut Crosby (Murray) was in
the car. We had seats of honor - raised ones- near the band -
Frank Decker played solo concert and looked very
chic in red regimentals. Mrs. Crosby sat with us. The
drill was very good indeed and Lieut Crosby & Corporal
Davis both received badges afterwards (among others) When
it was time for standing, Mary, Warren
Fisk, Emma,
Fay King, Miss Smith
& Mr. DeGraff and the two
Crosbys joined our party - Chat & I had decided not to dance. I was asked to a
