I took the girls pictures - both in Edith's
new hat. Tried to get Mary to hold a "keep off the grass" sign - but she was
afraid of the policeman. Came up on the 12:30 car (stopping at
Edith's) and had a bath before
dinner. Began reading Chat's
"Villette" this p.m. Edith came up about six and saw my photographs (which
delighted her) and we had a long talk. She wouldn't stay to supper -
at eight o'clock - a good one. They have begun at putting in the
Elevator at our building - and here at home we have a new furnace!
and a new drop light!! Claude's
"publisher" has sent out his book notices.
Oct. 16 Sunday

Teall supper in Mrs.
Baker's front dining room -
Mrs. B. with a bunch of pick carnations
at the head of the table and flowers in the middle - salad, rolls,
olives, coffee
