June 1. Wed.
A beautiful day - Was awake at five & up early & busy as
possible half a day at the office. Everyone was lovely &
J.G. & J.W. "beamed" Mrs.
Cutler sent "Goodbye" &c.&c. I stopped to see
Aroix & he gave me a French
novel to read & all kinds of good wishes &c.&c. He came out
into the hall & smiled "goodbye" I stopped to bid the boys
(Guerney &c.) goodbye - & Mr.
Sattum
& Nellie &c.&c.&c.
& I judge there'll be a crowd at the Station tomorrow, if it's
pleasant. Stopped at Mac Arthurs'
& came home to find my shoes here - &
Theo - & Meta came & brought me a pretty American flag. Got a
note - most mysterious - from Mary - asking me to lend her $50.00
for a "scheme" of hers - she's coming up tonight to see about it -
before supper - now I must make a money pocket & finish packing
& then entertain a few callers who say they are coming &
then go to the theatre with Con. Dear
Mother - & brother - & Father
& everybody are so very very nice to
me. Nicer than I deserve a good deal - and J.G. says I may stay until the middle of August - good
man.
