MEMORANDA Feb. 28 1910 Amelie told me today that TDS is going to N.Y. to a gold cure ([illegible]) this week & then to get over it somewhere. That he has been a "degenerate" for [] two years. That they watch him constantly - but he "gets away" and that he does no work but drains his salary for Meta's sake. (John is winding up the business) That he has miss appropriated & embezzled both the firm's & the Estate's money & that he wd be in State's prison! but for his wife - who is a brick. Feb 18 &c. 1911 Chan calls the steam coming from the horses backs "The hot of the horses" & Henry says "Billy Little isn't afraid of the sharp of the trees". & they speak of "the under" of things. Chan can spell "Nana" and Henry Knows most of his letters & "can draw " articulate engines"! Mar. 10 1912 Henry & Chan are very much interested in Geography, since they came from Bermuda. Henry has Char's old atlas - a geography and a globe (from Mrs. Ramsdell) & knows all the principal places accurately. Even Chan points out a good many when he is "telling you about the raild" (world) They are much interesterd in the recent discovery of the Southpole. Feb 12 1913 Chandler telling about his visit at Andrew's in Syracuse, said "and their butler is a waitress and wears a white apron "___" and she comed and knocked at our door and asked us if she could help us "dress". They love Annette - the little daughter. Feb 14 1914 I suggested to Bess & Mary once that they should call their house something more stately than "Shingle Shanty" &c ____ "ah! Our Hever Hall" - or some of there English places". Mary replied that was very appropriate as she "heaved in coal & hauled out ashes" most of the time when she was home - & "Hever Hall" it has been since then.
