227AUGUST 6 Sat 1910
A cold, cloudy dreary day. I
spent the p.m. at the hospital with
Father - who was quiet most of the
time, but wanted ice &c. He didn't talk much but did a little. Went to the
doctor's afterward & he told me he would not let him suffer would
give him morphine when he needed it. That's what I fear most now. Gilmore is going to
Quebec on the Alexandria tomorrow. Took a bath
& went to bed (in den) early tonight.
Sun 1911
Warm morning. Slept late &
none of us went to church. Loafed, read "Miss Gibbie Ganet"
&s. It looked like rain in p.m. but didn't. Had
Chan & Henry all p.m. while Nana
took the Ruliffsons to her farm. The boys were Angels.
Didn't go over to Baker - Davis - as
we planned. Sat on the piazza in the evening.
Tues 1912
Nice morning out at 7 &
went up to Statler's
to breakfast & bought a wrist watch holder, came & had an hour
in the station with dear
Charlotte Steele of Honolulu, her
husband Eugenen & little
Betty & Frederick. Phoned Mother from Roch.
Junction. Got home at noon. Unpacked "pressed" &c. in p.m. Learned
Claude's big secret (which I had
guessed.) of Eugenie Julier Macaulay
and went there to dinner with [illegible] & Mother& CFB just back from Mt. Kisco. The
children lovely "good to be home".
Wed 1913
Found Mrs. Bakerhere when I came home and he stayed
to supper & awhile after and seemed to enjoy it. Lura is at Helen's and Charlotte
too.
Thurs 1914
Much warmer. Terrible
War reports. Our president's wife,
Mrs. Wilson dying! Lunched with
Bess & Mary and tonight went to the dress makers, wrote to
Florence & talked to Mother & Ruth
.
