10/16/09 "Ben Hur".
Oct 14-15 Thur & Fri. Home & busy again. Industrial Exposition going on & everything lively. Went Friday night with the work house girls & heard Pryor's Band. Letitia & the boys home from Russell's Island. Lura's plaster dropped on her while we were gone! Not hurt, however. Lunched Thurs. Oct. 16 Sat. with Kittie Thornton Friday & Mother & I went to see Ben Hur (where she dances) Saturday night. Quite fine. Oct. 17. Sun. Cool. CFB home. He called this noon. I went up there this p.m. The children were upstairs in dear Char's room - in the sun. I left Mother there & went to MacArthur's where I saw Emily & the new July baby "Plain Jane". Then to Rogers' where I had a long visit with Florence
& May about school matters. The retirement of Mrs. Montgomery & the Election of Miss Gregory &c. (very confidential). Then to Matie Arnold's a few minutes - & saw the Children. She's not well. Oct. 18. Mon. Cold rain. Parade postponed. Lunched with KEB at Inside Inn. Had a half holiday(!) Read "Peter" tonight. There were beautiful Northern lights. Mrs. Caring came & told us. Oct. 19. Tues. Cool but no rain. Big parade this a.m. - Very fine indeed. Lunched with Miss Flack at Sibley's & walked up to Alexander St. to see the beautiful floats. Flinch tonight. Oct. 20 Wed. Cool. JG. away. Firemen's parade. Gen. Otis
died. Our kittens came! "Peter Pan" and "Tinker Bell". Very small & very cunning. Weigh 1 lb. 12 oz & 1 lb & 14 oz !! They were born about Sept. 1. (Here they are) (!) Father "Buster". Mother "Tiberia". Oct. 21 Thurs. CFB to N.Y. again (station business) Rain & horrid. Dr. Engert died tonight 10:30 Oct. 22 Friday. Another drippy day. Lunch with Bess & Mary at Sibley's & went with them (& Mother) to Roch. Sav. Bk. Bldg. at night to see the
