the depths below and really under you. The way back
was more wearisome but not less beautiful. We rested oftener - for lemonade
& at the old council House & Mary Jemison's Grave
- which we skipped in the morning. The last long stairs were the best of all.
& we got to the hotel in time to wash & rest a little before our trains
left. Trudy's - right in front of the hotel - as she went
to Castile on the Erie to visit Miss
Lathrop in Pike till tomorrow. Ours was
the Pennsylvania - which comes thro' the "park" but is not scheduled to stop - so
Mary & I had a "Carriage & spin" at a
dollar to take us to Portageville - & the train stopped at the park after all! (ha! ha!!) The ride home was really delightful -
but we each sat alone & hardly said a word we were so tired. When I got
home I found that the family had just seen an air ship (dirigible
balloon) & "Capt. Dallas" come sailing down the river
& it had flown close over Cro'nest - so
the man took off his hat to them - & Jo,
Claude
& Henry chased it out thro' the woods!
It must have been very exciting. I had a nice hot bath when I got home
& supper and bed & sleep!! Good & tired.
July 6. Tues.
Lovely day. My legs like poles this morning. Had to have an alcohol rub before
I could move them much. Rode 4 times! Anderson
