May 29. Sat.
"Soggy morning" but a fine warm day. I went to
Davis's to supper with Lura (Mrs. D.'s invitation) to
say goodbye to Chattie & Helen who are to leave Monday night for
Seattle. They were jolly (tho'
Chat's dress making was going wrong, as usual
&
Helen wasn't ready. Bought some low brown
shoes from Chat, because she couldn't wear them.
They went downtown with me - to get Chattie
a Kimono. The streets were full & it was quite gay.
May 30. Sun.
Lovely morning. Dr. Miller resigned (Miss Mc
Laughlin phoned Mother about it last
night) Lura,
Mary, Nellie & I went to
Webster on the 10 o'clock car. It was a lovely morning. A
young man ("Toni") met us & another girl with a double rig
and everything was lovely, as usual. & Ma
Wright.
feeling good (only sad about Edna Spencer's death we went
down to the little bridge before lunch dinner) and took
several walks afterwards. There is new china & the nicest dinner yet. Went
thro' a rye field & to some beautiful apple trees (blossoms nearly gone, tho')
and in the afternoon read, sat in swing, listened to phonograph &c.
Nellie & I took a walk together & after supper we all
walked up the lane. We slept in the big room upstairs Nell
& I together.
May 31 Mon.Decoration Day. Lovely morning. Got up reasonably early & after
breakfast took quite a long walk up the road. Jim Brown &
Geo. Tschume
(& "Mrs Chummy" his mother) made flower beds.
Mowed lawns &c "Ella King" was there too, whom we've heard
so much about. "Walt
" took us for a lovely ride
1909.
