Sept. 23 Sat. Mary Mac is at Lake George. J.W. is in Pittsburgh (after the Machesney

order). Sept 24 Sun I worked late (till after six) tonight. & loafed & read this evening. It was a perfect day. A lovely morning too. I went over to Behn's to see Frieda's school things. She leaves for LaSalle tomorrow. Theo goes with her. They are through with Arno who is travelling for another firm. After- ward I got on Diana and went across Clarissa St. Bridge and down Mt. Hope and thro' Alexander and out the new University pave- ment and out Atlantic Ave. under the wide railroad trails and beyond Culver St. into the country. The wind was behind me and blew me along. I had to walk some of the way thro' the Dugway - it was so steep - but beautiful - news and vistas & hills and Valleys. Auto &c. passed me both ways. Finally I came out on top of the ridge, rode a little way and tried a road to the right which was beautiful - but pretty bad after the first quarter- mile so I turned back and talked with a nice old German who
