devious) and took come pictures from there - One shows Nan (a dot by the woodshed door) calling us to dinner and the Parkers going home. Nan's voice was very clear and near-sounding. We came down 'cross - lots the back way (by the Rock) and had dinner right off. so as to start Early for a drive - Janet (a black mare with a white nose) - and of two-seater, Alice and Miss Laurence behind. It was a great day and a great ride - Out the road past the brook and up & up thro' lovely wood - say Northwest for a long way and then turning southerly along "Burnell hill" with a magnificent new of the White Mountains (we had been them from Tire'm - where I took one group-picture) Kearsarge, Mt. Washington Chicorua & others. It was "great" a the boys say - Then we turned to the left again and went up lovely "Birch Hill" (white & yellow birches) up thro' woods a mile or more - so steep we all walked - They nickname the hill "Blackguard". The view from the top in fine. It was steep coming down into Mutiny & So. Waterford (Where Artemus Ward is buried) too, but we rode. Got home that pretty way in time for supper - Miss L. knows Harry Wilkinson.
