chatted on a doorstep till Mary got home. Ned interviewed her & then walked up to Tremont with me - and rode home. I spent the evening sewing. Papa read aloud. Sept. 11. Wed. The oppresively warm weather which always occurs the first week of school. I remember it! Was about used up this a.m. and staid home this p.m. Slept two hours or so - read - & was very warm. Wrote to Claude - on his home steamer! Everybody talking "yacht races" to-day & these days. Sept. 12. Thurs. Some cooler, thankful to say. It was a hot night. Went to the office, but J.G. was for sending me home again. This noon went shopping with Mama and lunched at Sibley's - very pleasantly - together. I was just finishing supper when Ned came up on her wheel and we sat out doors awhile. Then she coaxed me back with her. We stopped at Mary's and she was real sweet to me. Walked down to Troup St. with us. Ned & I walked 'way down - leading the wheel. Edith sat on the piazza waiting for us and "Mary" was discussed by her of course. Another person to adore. I got home by nine - to write &c. Sept. 13. Friday Pleasant. At noon rode down by Ned's window & she beckoned me in. Mr. Gillis remarked on wheels &c.
