The hyacinthine boy for whom Morn well might break and April bloom, The gracious boy who did adorn The world whereinto he was born". After coming down from the cemetery I left Mama (who was somewhat tired) to pursue her way to the "Tavern", and I walked up the beautiful old road to the dear old Manse - where Hawthorne & Emerson both have lived - and where many have been whom I admire. It sets away back at the end of an avenue of trees - facing a hill and house bearing a bullet hole of the Revolution - & surrounded by fertile fields and the curving river behind. The battle field where the shot was fired "which was heard around the world" is just below. The old trees grown in to mighty ones
