Apartment Houses. &c. At the 59th gate we let a man think he
inveighled us into a park carriage (tho' we intended taking it all
the time) - and in company with 4 undemonstrative females took an
hour's drive thro' Central Park. It certainly is
lovely. Especially on the lower western side - and all up along that
way. It seems marvelously well laid out with as much variety as is
possible under the circumstances. We went way up to Mt. something on
the Northern end & then down the other side of the reservoirs. I
asked to go to the menagerie & we were transferred to another
carriage. I left Mama on a seat
half an hour while I took another look at the beasties - from
prairie dogs to eagles. Her highness the lioness was most uneasy & the
leopard the image of my cat Isaac. They were in the outside cages
this morning. By that time it was luncheon time & I decided to
indulge at the
Plaza - in the delightful green leather &
bronze room looking on the park.
