dried beef & then to Ned's - where I found Mrs. Thomas, calling on Ned (& Edith) Charlotte came just as she went & we had a pleasant evening (till 11!) Had to eat cheese cracker's-beef - jam & olives & then hot chocolate sent in by Mrs. T. & Champagne cider (more for looks than drinking) I took a flashlight of the orgies - with a new Azalea - sent to Ned this p.m. We looked at scrapbooks & talked, as usual. I saw Charlotte on her car (11:15)! Late to bed. Feb. 23 Sun. Thawing today, but windy, cloudy & air agreeable. I breakfasted alone - after a bath - & read a little - wrote & took pictures fussed. Claude is making "Thumb-nail sketches" for the Chap Book. Lonesome without Papa - we have a letter. Walked down with Claude & got the N.Y. paper & stopped at Ned's coming back.Edith was still there. They were both rather blue & lonesome. I staid & talked about an hour. It was very slippery indeed, coming home. Spent rest of eve. eating supper & reading. Feb. 24. Mon. J.G. back, but not well. Saw Charlotte & Mary at noon, Ned & Klem after dinner. Rode up with the Behns all quite wild about the Opera - where I went at 7:30 with Charlotte, Mary, Emma Mac & Miss Webster - Had fine seats in front row of gallery. Nearly got "squashed" getting in. Behns directly below us - Charella & " Dom
