Feb. 18. Tuesday. Went to meet Charlotte at noon. Papa came rushing over to meet me & tell us that Claude had a telegram saying G.B.& O. were one of the 6 successful firms in the N.Y. City Hall competition and are to have a $2000 prize ($666.66 2/3 a piece) Of course we're delighted. The drawings are to be exhibited in the League. Claude immediately invited me to go to N.Y. with him & I ac- cepted (needless to say) J.G. congratulated &c. &c. Spend evening reading by grate fire, Feb. 19. Wed. Rode down - late - this morning. Claude receiving congratulations. Gordon quite overcome &c. Walked home with Mary this noon & she thinks N.Y. scheme is great. Met Ned at the corner & Emma. Mr. Stowell got us seats for the opera Monday. 1st row in the bal gallery! Edith was up this evening - Very stormy & cold. Bed early. Feb. 20 Thurs. Blizzard today. Papa went to Watertown. J.G. home sick. At noon went for Ned & to her room to borrow "Camille" (in anticipation of seeing Duse) Met Mary & she was in a bad temper - evidently.
