Hamilton led the way up State
St.Frank's parting words to H. & K. as we left them at the 4
corners were, "Have some bread & butter & olives
ready for me when I get home!" I met the Behns (who had been to the opera) just as I reached
there. Trudy was already in bed &
after a wash &c. it was fully mid- night by the time I crawled
in beside her. I took Trudy's
picture this noon - by the side door.
Aug. 31. Sat.
It rained this afternoon but I rode "Diana" both ways. Stayed at the office till nearly one. Went
with Trudy
to the train at 2:25 p.m. Crowds were
going away. I went into the train house and she got the last seat left on
the "Empire State". It was growing cool fast. I walked down to
Ned's - found Ned
just ready to start up town (as I tho't to) and Edith in bed with a sick headache. We
went over to Frederica's a minute
Ida was there & then (Ned & I) up to Lilla's - found her & "Mamma" packing and we stayed until 5:30!
Talked "bicycle" & Lilla's
lovers, mostly. Went to Gillis'
for Ned's money (too late) & to
Mary's to pay her 5¢ I owed her(!)
& then
1895.
