and an interesting one and Pedro - a black
cocker - is a joy. We left it all - all the "lovely crew" and
Mary's "pretty boy" at
Lakefield, Mr.Graham saw us to the
station & into the charge of Mr.
& Mrs. Barnard, our chaperones. All
the "crew" came down to the train. & we staid on the platform till
it moved. The capt. squoze our hands & told us to "be good
girls" and we subsided to a chat with Mr.
& Mrs. Barnard At
Peterboro'Mr. B.
had to take charge of a 14 pound lunge (Mrs.
Forbes) which he was carrying home - and we all got into a
little bus and rattled to the Snowden House, where we
were shown into 2nd floor front" rooms - Brussels (antique?) carpet &
black walnut furniture. After a hasty toilet (It was nearly nine
o'clock) we prome- naded down to the dining room where a pale
"biscuit-shooter" in pink rattled off the things we might have & we
com- promised with her on scrambled eggs- cold meat & coffee (?)
A mild hurrah startled us & we were informed a victorious
Lacrosse team had arrived from somewhere - or was leaving - After killing
all the millers in our room & hanging up Tommy's flag to dry, we retired & slept.
