and the air clear as a bell. We performed our duties in housekeeping - various & interesting - and I called on the Hughes & inspected their 3 pound bass - just caught - & we looked dubiously at the white-cappy channel knowing that the girls would not venture across as we had planned - for a visit to Eagle Mount. The Roses were planning a sail to McCracken's for ice & water & invited me to go. We were just about starting, when, much to my surprise, I saw Tom's flag of St. George bearing down on us - flying out from his scudding sail. I said "Here comes Mr. Struthers sail boat. He must have a message from the girls". Mr. Rose: "We'll wait" I: "Good- morning - what's the news?" Tom: "The girls can't get across - I've had an awful time. Wanted me to tell you" & I: "I'm just going to sail to McCracken's" T: "Guess I'll sail down there" - and off we all go scudding before the wind - all the way in 5 min- utes and the boat well wet. Tomtore his sail and drifted without leeboards, where upon he called me "Miss Leeboards" from thence forth. I invited him to the breezy hill top to watch me dig worms
